OFM Optical Fiber Multi-parameter Measurement System

The OFM Optical Fiber Multi-parameter Measurement System is a high-precision testing system developed by the Shanghai Electric Cable Research Institute (SECRI) for comprehensive measurement of optical fiber characteristics. The system complies with IEC 60793 test methods and is designed for research, manufacturing, quality control, and application testing of optical fibers and optical cables. It measures multiple fiber parameters, including attenuation (ATT), mode field diameter (MFD), and cut-off wavelength (CW), providing fast, accurate, and reliable results.

The OFM system features a user-friendly software interface with database support and offers excellent measurement precision, high repeatability, and rapid testing. Two models are available—OFM 1701 and OFM 1702—to meet different testing requirements. Both models support attenuation measurements over a wavelength range of 1100–1650 nm with repeatability of ≤0.01 dB/km. The OFM 1702 provides higher measurement speed, supporting three or more wavelengths per second, while the OFM 1701 supports one or more wavelength per second. The system also measures attenuation versus wavelength over the same wavelength range with identical repeatability and speed characteristics. For cut-off wavelength measurements, the system operates over a wavelength range of 1100–1500 nm, with a repeatability of ≤8 nm. Mode field diameter (MFD) measurements are performed over 1100–1600 nm with a repeatability of ≤0.1 μm. Measurement time is approximately 2 minutes for a single wavelength on the OFM 1701 and 2 minutes for dual-wavelength measurement on the OFM 1702.

The system also measures macrobending loss over the 1100–1650 nm wavelength range and provides optical power stability of ±0.05 dB, making it suitable for accurate characterization of optical fiber performance. Overall, the OFM Optical Fiber Multi-parameter Measurement System provides a complete solution for automated, high-accuracy optical fiber testing in laboratories and manufacturing facilities
