The ISG Cable Insulating and Sheathing Materials Geometry Measurement System is a high-precision, fully automated measurement system developed by the Shanghai Electric Cable Research Institute (SECRI) for measuring the geometric dimensions of insulation and sheath materials used in electrical and optical cables. The system employs non-contact digital image processing, pattern recognition technology, and a high-resolution CCD camera to automatically measure cable insulation thickness and outer dimensions with high accuracy. It complies with international standards including IEC 60811-1-1, GB/T 2951.11, GB/T 5013, and GB/T 5023.

The system is designed to measure the thickness, outer diameter, area, concentricity, and ovality of insulation and sheath materials made from elastomers, PVC, PE, PP, and other cable insulation materials. It supports fully automatic testing, completing all measurements in approximately 10 seconds, automatically generating test reports, and storing the results in a database. The system also offers optional calibration standards with third-party certification.

The ISG system incorporates several advanced features, including non-contact measurement, high-precision CCD imaging, automatic sample recognition, image segmentation to remove shadows and dust, multiple lighting sources, and interchangeable test platforms for different sample sizes. It also supports network connectivity, enabling measurement data to be uploaded directly to a server, and can be customized with different measurement modules according to customer requirements.

The measurement system is available with multiple modules covering measurement ranges from 0.5 mm to 140 mm, providing repeatability from 0.002 mm to 0.02 mm and measurement accuracy up to ±0.01 mm, depending on the selected module.

The system also includes a variety of measurement modes, automatic sample selection, calibration tools, and comprehensive test reporting. In addition, SECRI provides cable preparation accessories such as large-diameter cable cutters, small-diameter cable cutters, and conductor ejectors to simplify sample preparation before measurement.
