The FGM Optical Fiber Geometry Measurement System is a high-precision automatic measurement system developed by the Shanghai Electric Cable Research Institute (SECRI) for measuring the geometric parameters of optical fibers. The system complies with the IEC 60793 test method and utilizes EIA/TIA FOTP 176 gray-scale calibration technology. It integrates an advanced optical system, a CCD camera, computer-based image processing, and automated measurement software to accurately measure both the bare optical fiber and its coating in a single test without manual intervention. The system delivers precise, reliable, and repeatable measurement results.
The FGM system is available in two models, FGM-501 and FGM-502, with a test time of less than 50 seconds. It uses a near-field distribution measurement method and is suitable for both single-mode and multimode optical fibers. The system measures key fiber geometry parameters including core diameter, cladding diameter, cladding non-circularity, and core-to-cladding concentricity error. For coated fibers, it also measures coating diameter, coating non-circularity, and core-to-coating concentricity error, enabling comprehensive evaluation of fiber quality.
The system provides excellent measurement repeatability. For single-mode fibers, repeatability is ≤ 0.05 μm for core and cladding diameter, ≤ 0.10% for cladding non-circularity, and ≤ 0.04 μm for core-to-cladding concentricity error. For multimode fibers, repeatability is ≤ 0.08 μm for core diameter, ≤ 0.05 μm for cladding diameter, ≤ 1.00% for core non-circularity, ≤ 0.10% for cladding non-circularity, and ≤ 0.08 μm for core-to-cladding concentricity error. The system also measures primary and secondary coating parameters with repeatability of up to ≤ 0.20 μm for coating diameter, ≤ 0.40% for coating non-circularity, and ≤ 1.00 μm for core-to-coating concentricity error, depending on the selected model.
